Instructor - Nocturnist - #Faculty
Job Description
The Division of Hospital Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking Day time faculty and Nocturnists to join our division. We are a group of more than 50 faculty, 12-14 APP and 5-6 support staff embedded within the Department of Medicine. The group's mission includes patient care, education, research, and clinical administration.
Hospitalist Program:
Scope of Clinical Activities The group's current clinical activities include: Direct care services, a hospitalist-run Resident-covered general medical service ("Brancati Service" or the "Firms"), Consultative activities (Consult service), Comanagement services (Orthopedic Surgery Co-management and Oncology Solid Tumor Co-management), Medicine Progressive Care Unit ("MPC"), Flex hospitalist program, and Hopkins Access Line (HAL) coverage. The Hospitalist direct care service carries up to 90 inpatients at a time. Additional clinical services are currently being explored and may be deployed within the next year. The Division employs support staff (hospitalist administrators, advanced practice professionals, and medical office coordinators to expedite care, and medical office coordinators) and also employs moonlighters (faculty, residents and fellows) to support some clinical activities. Nocturnist Coverage Models The Division's nocturnist coverage models are subject to change based on operational and clinical needs. Current nocturnist roles include the following and can be a mix of multiple roles: +
Floor Nocturnist:
Provides cross-coverage and admissions for floor-level medicine patients. +
Float Nocturnist:
Provides cross-coverage for floor-level medicine patients and admissions to floor, intermediate level of care (MPC), and Oncology services. +
CARL Nocturnist:
Provides cross-coverage and admissions for a designated combination of post-procedure cardiac, general cardiology, renal transplant, and lung transplant patients. +
Intermediate Level of Care Nocturnist:
Provides cross-coverage and admissions for intermediate level of care patients, as well as medicine consults and coverage of the transfer line. Key Responsibilities for
Nocturnists:

Patient Care:
+ Provide comprehensive medical care for hospitalized patients, including cross-coverage and admissions.
+ Upon request by nursing staff, assess patients' conditions and update their treatment plans.
+ Make timely, evidence-based decisions regarding patient care and treatment plans.
+ Respond to clinical emergencies, assist in critical care situations, and ensure the safety and comfort of patients. +
Collaboration:
+ Work closely with other attending physicians, specialists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to provide coordinated care.
+ Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education on diagnoses, treatment options, and care plans. +
Documentation and Compliance:
+ Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities in the electronic health record (EHR).
+ Adhere to hospital policies and regulatory requirements, including quality improvement initiatives, infection control, and safety protocols. +
Quality Improvement:
+ Participate in departmental quality improvement projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, safety, and satisfaction.
+ Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and best practices. +
Education and Mentorship:
+ Provides education and oversight to APPs and residents.
+ Engage in continuous professional development and training. 1 Additional clinical service expectations: 1 Meet the productivity and performance expectations on each of the clinical services 2 Provide clinical feedback and administrative feedback to Hospitalist leadership team as needed 3 May be required to share administrator-on-call duties with other leaders in the group +
Education:
+ Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. +
Licensure:
+ Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine.
+ Active medical license in the state of Maryland. +
Certifications:
+ BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification encouraged.
+ Additional certifications, such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), preferred.
Physical Demands:
+ Ability to stand, walk, and move patients for prolonged periods.
+ Ability to lift and carry medical equipment and supplies.
+ Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patient condition and communicate effectively.
Work Environment:
+ The Hospitalist will work primarily in a hospital inpatient setting, with some potential for administrative duties.
+ Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays depending on departmental needs.
+ The role involves high-stress situations and a fast-paced environment, requiring quick decision-making and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Salary:
$225,000 - $384,850 Salary Range The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
