A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Summary :
At CalvertHealth we are committed to developing our future Nursing Professionals. As a Student Nurse Extern, you will work alongside an RN mentor and provide best-in-class, quality, and evidence-based patient care. You will experience clinical coaching, hands-on learning, and full integration into your practice environment. Your assigned RN mentor will help you develop the critical thinking skills needed to increase your confidence as a nursing professional. In addition, you will be supported by a member of our nursing professional development team to ensure your learning needs are met as you gain the best clinical experience possible.
Education :
You must currently be enrolled in an accredited RN program. You must have successfully completed your first and second semester clinical rotations and entering your final year of your nursing program. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
Registration/Certification/Licensure :
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through the Maryland Board of Nursing by time of hire Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, by time of hire
Experience :
No experience outside of nursing school is necessary.
Other Requirements :
Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements. 36-40 hours per week, 12-hour shifts and three 4-hour program classes in addition to scheduled shifts. During the summer your schedule will mirror your clinical coach's schedule, excluding holidays. Maintain unit specific and hospital competencies in accordance with policy requirements
