We're looking for an experienced Associate Director of Hospice Services to provide clinical and operational leadership for our hospice admissions program. About the Role The Associate Director of Hospice Services provides leadership and oversight for hospice admissions and related clinical operations. This position leads admission nurses and weekend clinical leadership, standardizes admission processes, supports referral relationships, and ensures timely, compliant transitions from admission to ongoing hospice care. The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) and hospice leader who combines strong clinical judgment with operational expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for compassionate end-of-life care. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, and support hospice admission RNs and weekend clinical leadership. Ensure timely hospice admissions and effective handoffs to clinical managers and primary RNs. Standardize hospice admission processes and best practices across Maine. Conduct hospice admissions and field observations/assessments as needed. Partner with Patient Service Center, Clinical Management, Business Innovation, Quality, Hospice House, and other teams to coordinate admissions and support patient access. Build and maintain strong relationships with referral sources and community partners. Monitor admission performance, patient satisfaction, documentation, HOPE submission data, and other key metrics. Ensure hospice admissions comply with CMS, ACHC, HIPAA, and other regulatory and accreditation requirements . Support QAPI activities, survey readiness, audit preparedness, and continuous quality improvement. Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, precepting, and development of admission and clinical leadership staff. Collaborate with Regional Directors to develop policies, procedures, workflows, and operational improvements. Provide clinical guidance related to hospice eligibility, assessments, documentation, referrals, and admission decisions. Support management of admission-related expenses, including transportation, DME, medications, and supplies. Collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate appropriate services for patients who decline hospice. Participate in the Manager on Call rotation. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, patient safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Represent Andwell in community outreach and stakeholder engagement activities.
What You'll Bring Required:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maine . Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in hospice or healthcare management . Demonstrated experience leading clinical teams and operational programs. Strong knowledge of hospice and palliative care practices and the hospice philosophy of comfort, dignity, and compassionate support. Knowledge of CMS and ACHC regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements . Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and team-building skills. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs), healthcare technology, and data reporting systems. Ability to travel throughout the region and between patient care and community locations.
Preferred:
CHPN (Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse) certification. Experience with hospice admissions, quality improvement, referral development, or regulatory survey preparation. Why Join Andwell?
