9682853-04092 Job Description Step into a rewarding role providing dedicated nursing care to a high school student with complex health needs in a school setting near Portland, ME. This contract opportunity runs from ASAP through June 11, 2027, with flexible scheduling options availablework full time, on a per diem basis, or part-time to suit your needs. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm as needed. You'll serve as a one-on-one Registered Nurse, riding the bus with the student to and from the transition center, ensuring safety and health at each step of the school day. The student, diagnosed with Angelmans syndrome, uses a wheelchair, is non-verbal, and requires full support with all activities of daily living (ADLs), particularly eating and swallowing due to a tendency to self-feed large amounts.
What youll bring:
Active RN license in Maine (or compact eligible) Experience with 1:1 pediatric nursing or school-based nursing Familiarity supporting students with significant physical/medical needs Ability to work collaboratively; some ADLs require 2-person assistance Proficiency in seizure observation/intervention and emergency medication administration Physically able to assist with lifting and transfers, including toileting/changing Attention to detail with care plans, therapy goals, environment, and student safety In this meaningful role, responsibilities include closely monitoring for seizure activity and tremors, providing thorough care during feeding, assisting with occupational and physical therapies, following all health plans, accompanying the student on field trips, and maintaining a supportive environment per medical/IEP guidelines.
