Job Description

The MDS Coordinator RN is responsible for managing and coordinating the accurate and timely completion of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), including the Minimum Data Set (MDS), Care Area Assessments (CAAs), care planning and supporting documentation in accordance with federal and state regulations. This role ensures compliance with federal and state requirements, supports optimized reimbursement through compliance with PDPM and other payer requirements. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws.
Supervisory responsibilities include:
Interviews and trains MDS Nurse as requested Plans, assigns and directs work. Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration patient safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made. Receives calls and finds replacements for absent staff. Prepares performance evaluations with the understanding such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees. Receives and resolves employee complaints. Monitors and evaluates employee performance as requested. Participates in performance improvement plans. Adequately supervise assigned staff and ensure that those staff are supervising employees assigned to them. Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties. Education and/or
Experience:
Prior MDS/RAI experience strongly preferred Knowledge of RAI guidelines, PDPM, ICD-10 coding, Quality Measures, and Care Area Assessments and Care Planning processes. Knowledge of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process, including the principles of the Prospective Payment Process (PPS) and Case Mix payment systems, is strongly preferred. Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions, (word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, etc.) Strong organizational and analytical skills; oral and written communication skills. Supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated ability in independent functioning and strong leadership.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Registered Nurse with a valid license Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
