MedSurg experience Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to provide exceptional care to mothers and newborns during the childbirth process. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of obstetric nursing, neonatal resuscitation, and patient assessment, ensuring safe and compassionate care in a dynamic hospital environment. As a vital member of our maternity team, you will coordinate patient care, support families, and uphold the highest standards of clinical excellence and safety. Duties Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs continuously to assess labor progress and detect any complications promptly. Assist with labor management, including pain control techniques such as epidural administration and non-pharmacological methods. Perform neonatal resuscitation procedures in accordance with neonatal resuscitation protocols to stabilize newborns immediately after delivery. Administer medications safely, including Pitocin, antibiotics, and analgesics, following prescribed orders and safety guidelines. Educate expectant mothers and their families on childbirth processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care. Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Document all patient interactions accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Ensure aseptic technique during procedures such as suturing or catheterization to prevent infections and promote healing. Requirements Valid registered nurse license with specialized training or certification in obstetric nursing (e.g., Inpatient Obstetric Nursing certification). Proven experience working in labor and delivery units within a hospital setting, preferably at Level I or Level II trauma centers. Knowledge of fetal monitoring systems, including cardiotocography (CT), to assess fetal well-being during labor. Proficiency in neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP) and advanced life support techniques for mothers and infants. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient care activities. Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology related to pregnancy, labor processes, and neonatal physiology. Ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations involving acute pain management or obstetric complications. Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively while providing emotional support during labor. Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with developmental disabilities or complex medical histories such as cardiac conditions or infectious diseases.
