Description:
The Registered nurse demonstrates skilled peri-operative abilities and practices within the framework of the nursing process. The nurse coordinates and provides direct patient care in a structured environment while adhering to and supporting hospital philosophy goals and standards of care. Communicates with patient, staff and physicians in the pre and post op environment to evaluate patient needs and develop a plan of care for upcoming surgeries and procedures. Provides work direction to staff (surgical techs, support staff) to ensure coordinated patient care during surgery, procedures, PACU, Outreach. Stays current in documentation requirements in the electronic medical record (EMR) and follows all state/federal mandates concerning privacy and HIPPA.
Requirements:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduate from an approved RN program is acceptable; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Graduation from a NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. A minimum of 6 months experience working in the intraoperative setting, preferably ortho, gyn, general, opthamology, as a circulating nurse is required. Following formal orientation and training through all perioperative areas (preoperative, intraoperative, PACU, discharge), competency in the assigned perioperative area is expected within six months.
REQUIRED CREDENTIALS
(License, certification, registration): Current RN licensure in the state of Minnesota. BLS, ACLS, NRP and PALS required within 6 months of hire.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of appropriate age-related patient care protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Ability to have positive, professional interpersonal relationships with customers and colleagues. Highly developed communication skills to interact with patients, family and other health care team members. Skills in critical thinking to promote and provide quality health care for patients. Preferred knowledge of
EPIC. EMPLOYMENT VARIABLES
PRN (as needed) schedule. 8-hour shifts will vary and scheduled between the contracted hours Monday - Friday. Requires flexibility to cover surgery, procedures, outreach, clinic, and occasional trauma in the ER.
