Job Description
Mercy is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Surgical Stepdown unit. In this role, you will provide complex post-surgical care, closely monitor vital signs and telemetry, administer medications, and manage wounds and drains. You will collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to develop and implement individualized care plans, educate patients and families, and support safe discharge. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-surgical stepdown patients Continuously monitor vital signs and telemetry, responding promptly to changes Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments per provider orders Manage surgical wounds, drains, and pain control protocols Develop, implement, and document individualized care plans in the EHREducate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and discharge instructions Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care Ensure adherence to infection prevention and patient safety standards Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives Support orientation and mentoring of new staff as needed Required Skills Post-surgical patient care Telemetry monitoring IV therapy and medication administration Wound and drain management Care planning and documentation (EHR) Patient and family education Clinical assessment and triage Interdisciplinary care coordination Infection prevention and safety protocols Discharge planning
