Duties Conduct thorough assessments of residents to gather accurate clinical data for MDS completion, ensuring compliance with CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) regulations. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care planning, discharge planning, and documentation review aligned with clinical documentation standards. Ensure timely submission of MDS assessments, care plans, and other required documentation within regulatory deadlines. Maintain proficiency in
ICD-10/ICD
coding, CPT coding, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) assignments, and utilization management practices to support appropriate reimbursement. Monitor changes in healthcare regulations related to long-term care, HIPAA privacy rules, and state healthcare policies to ensure ongoing compliance. Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Epic, or Athenahealth for data entry, documentation review, and reporting purposes. Provide education and training to clinical staff on documentation standards, coding practices, and regulatory updates to enhance accuracy and compliance. Skills Extensive knowledge of Epic EMR/EHR systems, Meditech, or similar electronic health record platforms. Strong understanding of Medicare regulations, HEDIS measures, NCQA standards, and CMS guidelines for long-term care facilities. Critical care experience or ICU background is highly desirable for comprehensive resident assessments. Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy/physiology knowledge, and medical records management. Experience with medical coding including
ICD-9/ICD-10
codes, CPT codes, DRG assignment, and utilization review processes. Familiarity with managed care protocols, health information management practices, and discharge planning procedures. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment involving inpatient or outpatient settings.
