Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented MDS Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with Medicare regulations and maintaining accurate medical documentation. This position requires a strong understanding of nursing home operations, medical coding, and documentation review to effectively manage the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments for residents. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents to complete MDS documentation accurately and timely. Review and analyze medical records to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams to gather necessary information for MDS submissions. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Medicare guidelines, DRG coding, and medical terminology. Provide training and support to staff on MDS processes and documentation requirements. Monitor quality indicators related to MDS submissions and implement corrective actions as needed. Ensure proper coding of diagnoses and procedures in accordance with medical coding standards. Utilize electronic health record systems, such as Athenahealth, for efficient documentation management. Requirements Previous experience in a nursing home or long-term care setting is preferred. Strong knowledge of medical documentation, including familiarity with ICU protocols. Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of Medicare regulations. Experience with documentation review processes and DRG coding is highly desirable. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate record keeping. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with staff and residents. Familiarity with electronic health record systems is a plus. Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, valid nursing license.
