A Brief Overview The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing lactation management services to expectant and new parents. These functions are performed in accordance with the hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. What you will do

• Plans, teaches and evaluates classes for expectant and new breastfeeding mothers.
• Creates a milieu that promotes learning for staff and patients.
• Conducts bedside lactation rounds daily.
• Consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems.
• Participates appropriately in communication and decision-making activities of the Lactation team and the maternity services.
• Selects appropriate breastfeeding related supplies for retail sale and for rental.
• Plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for maternity nursing staff.
• Plans, organizes and delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding patients, both in-patient and outpatient.
• Plans, organizes and delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding patients, in the Parent Education classes.
• Conducts quality assurance programs to monitor the caliber of the program.
• Carries out other duties as assigned. Education Qualifications
• BSN required
• MSN preferred Experience Qualifications . 3-5 years of experience in lactation consulting Previous experience with maternal-child health nursing Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrates ability to lead, organize, manage, and develop lactation programs.
• Ability to successfully assist mothers with breastfeeding skills.
• Ability to work with several different patient care units and levels of care providers.
• Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in accepting work assignments.
• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills. Licenses and Certifications

Pay Range:
