Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Infection Prevention Nurse to join our interdisciplinary team in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term care setting. The Infection Prevention Nurse is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective infection prevention and control program that promotes the health and safety of residents, staff, visitors, and the community. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those established by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop, implement, and oversee the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program. Conduct ongoing surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), communicable diseases, and outbreaks. Investigate, track, trend, and report infections in accordance with regulatory requirements. Ensure timely reporting of reportable diseases and outbreaks to the appropriate regulatory agencies. Monitor compliance with infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning. Conduct regular infection control rounds and audits throughout the facility. Collaborate with nursing, medical, rehabilitation, dietary, housekeeping, and other departments to promote infection prevention best practices. Develop and provide infection prevention education and training to employees during orientation and throughout employment. Assist with employee health initiatives, including vaccination programs, exposure follow-up, and communicable disease management. Maintain accurate infection surveillance records and prepare reports for Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings. Participate in emergency preparedness planning related to infectious disease outbreaks and public health emergencies. Review and update infection prevention policies and procedures in accordance with current evidence-based guidelines. Serve as a resource for residents, families, staff, and medical providers regarding infection prevention and control practices. Participate in state surveys, regulatory inspections, and plan of correction activities as needed. QualificationsEducation Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience required. Experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, infection prevention, public health, or epidemiology preferred. Knowledge of CMS, CDC, OSHA, and NYSDOH regulations applicable to long-term care settings. Certifications Infection Prevention certification (CIC) preferred or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe. CPR certification required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of infection prevention and control principles. Ability to analyze data and identify trends. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to educate and influence staff at all levels of the organization. Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
