Job Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Per Diem Registered Nurse specializing in Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) care. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional patient-centered nursing services during surgical procedures and recovery phases, ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. Your expertise will support a fast-paced environment where every moment counts, and your proactive approach will make a meaningful difference in patients' lives. This position offers flexible scheduling to accommodate your availability while maintaining high standards of care. Responsibilities Deliver comprehensive preoperative assessments and prepare patients for surgery, ensuring all necessary documentation and equipment are in place. Monitor patients closely during surgical procedures within the OR, utilizing aseptic technique and advanced monitoring systems to maintain patient safety. Provide expert post-operative care in the PACU, managing pain, vital signs, and recovery progress while addressing any complications promptly. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support staff to coordinate seamless patient care. Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following strict protocols and ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner. Educate patients and their families about post-surgical care instructions, discharge planning, and follow-up needs to promote healing at home or in transitional care settings. Maintain sterile environment standards, perform suturing when necessary, and assist with specimen collection or processing as required. Requirements Valid RN license in the state of employment with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS certification preferred. Proven experience working in OR or PACU settings within hospital environments; outpatient surgery experience highly desirable. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate medical documentation and patient record management. Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, airway management, medication administration including IV insertion/infusion, and vital signs assessment. Ability to perform physical examinations, monitor physiological parameters, and respond swiftly to emergent situations like acute pain or airway compromise. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and educate patients clearly.
