What they do
A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Education:
2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing, required or...Vocational / Technical
Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required or... 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred All RN's hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor's prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN's licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement.Experience:
New graduate or less than one year of experience as a Registered Nurse, requiredLicense/ Certification:
NYS licensure as Registered Nurse or valid interim permit, required BLS certification will be required within 6 months Other certifications may be needed based on department requirementsSkills:
