A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. Responsibilities include:
The Nursing Process:
Conduct comprehensive assessments, recognize abnormal data, communicate effectively with the healthcare team, and ensure patient safety.
Diagnosis and Planning:
Identify patient problems, develop and revise individualized care plans with measurable goals, and coordinate discharge planning.
Implementation:
Deliver evidence-based care, delegate appropriately, educate patients and families, respond to emergencies, and maintain a safe environment.
Evaluation:
Continuously assess care effectiveness, adjust plans as needed, and ensure continuity during transfers.
Documentation:
Accurately record the care process in electronic records, including patient responses and education.
Leadership & Development:
Motivate, mentor, and support peers, participate in staff meetings, quality improvement activities, and professional growth initiatives. Act as a resource and maintain competency, including certification and community involvement.
Qualifications include:
Current Ohio RN licensure and BLS certification; ACLS within 6 months for specific units.
Education:
Diploma, ADN, or BSN; all nurses hired after January 2010 must obtain a BSN within 5 years.
Skills:
Effective communication, cultural competence, adaptability, and commitment to professional growth.
Preferred:
Membership in professional organizations and specialty certifications.
Additional responsibilities:
Comply with policies, complete required training, and maintain excellent attendance.
