Job Description

Job Summary:
A clinically competent registered nurse who coordinates and delivers professional nursing care to the acutely ill patient (pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric) through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Effectively interacts with the patient, significant other(s), and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Essential Job Duties:
Adheres to the mission, philosophy and standards of nursing and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department. Verifies and carries out physicians' orders in an accurate and timely manner. Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, focuses on biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care and discharge planning needs. Formulates a focused plan of care which is prioritized and based on nursing standards and determined by nursing diagnosis (es) and patient outcomes. Identifies learning needs of patient/significant other(s) and implements appropriate measures to meet those needs. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patients' rights as identified within the hospital. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care. Reports in a timely manner to the appropriate person(s) outcomes as well as any pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients. Performs documentation in patient record in a timely, accurate and concise manner. Participates in patient safety/maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Demonstrates applied knowledge base and nursing implementation skills in areas of standards, patient care resources, procedures/policies, medications, and significant lab values. Coordinates total care of patient. Prepares patient when scheduled for surgery or other procedure; nursing care is planned accordingly. Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the personnel's capabilities and qualifications, and assigns other duties as needed. Directs and supervises/evaluates nursing care provided to patients in the absence of a Charge Nurse Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care and contributions of systems and environment in progressing patients toward desired outcomes. Actively assumes personal responsibility for ongoing education and professional development. Functions as a team member or works independently when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Establishes and maintains open and effective communication; uses lines of authority appropriately. Adheres to attendance and dependability standards and uses hospital time wisely. Adapts to changing environments; e.g., staffing patterns and patient assignments. Promotes and maintains a professional image of the unit, nursing department, and hospital. Conforms to dress code.
PERIODIC ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Assists physicians with special tests and procedures (e.g., lumbar tap, thoracentesis, liver biopsy, chest tube insertion, bone marrow, catheterization, irrigation, paracentesis, etc.) 2. Participates in orientation/evaluation of new nursing staff. 3. Performs efficiently in emergency situations (i.e., CPR, fire, disaster) 4. May be required to function as a nursing supervisor following appropriate orientation to role. 5. Performs any special assignments as delegated by the Director of Nursing.
Job Specification:
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oklahoma.
Education/Training:
Current license is required. Current BLS certification is required. Current ACLS certification is preferred. Basic computer skills.
Skills:
Maintains a high degree of credibility, independence, integrity, confidentiality and trust. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
Physical Effort:
Must be able to stand and traverse 50% of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery. Frequently position self to provide patient care and lifting up to 50 lbs to a height of 3-4 feet and to traverse inside the hospital.
