Job Description

School Nurse Position Purpose Montgomery School is seeking a school nurse to ensure outstanding student health and care on-campus. The School Nurse oversees school policies and practices related to student and community health, working closely with teachers and school leadership. This role also provides direct care to students and staff in the case of injury or illness, advising parents on care and health policies. This is a 10 month position running from approximately mid-August through mid-June. The nurse reports directly to the Director of Operations. Primary Responsibility Specific duties include but are not limited to: Provide basic healthcare to students and staff in case of injury or acute illness, collaborating with and referring to pediatricians and other health specialists as needed Communicate health concerns/nurse visits to parents and caregivers in a timely manner Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene Ensure proper professional training for staff on a variety of topics including (but not limited to) epipen use, CPR, bloodborne pathogens, etc. Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings Keep student health files up to date, including vaccination records, physicals and health and dental screenings Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases) Ensure compliance with national and local health laws, establishing connections with the local health authorities as needed In partnership with the Director of Finance, manage the health center budget while maintaining the nursing suite and supply inventory As needed, convene a health advisory committee consisting of community members with health expertise at various levels Collaborate with the members of the Health & Safety Team Collaborate with the school's cooperating physician as needed Collaborate with colleagues and positively participate in professional development, adult learning initiatives, and program development opportunities afforded by the school Other duties as assigned which support the mission and high functioning of the school
Candidate Requirements:
A BSN or MSN and RN licensure is required. Experience as a pediatric or school nurse is preferred. Knowledge of the PA Department of Health SHARRS reporting system and Health eTools database is a plus.
