UPMC - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is seeking a Professional Staff Nurse, Casual for Same Day Surgery in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will provide pre and post operative nursing care, perform patient assessments, start IVs, administer medications, and monitor recovery following procedures. You will educate patients and families on discharge instructions, collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and documentation standards. Responsibilities Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care for same day surgery patients. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and document findings in the EHR. Initiate and manage IV therapy and administer ordered medications safely. Monitor patients in recovery, assessing pain, vital signs, and readiness for discharge. Educate patients and families on procedures, medications, and discharge instructions. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care. Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards in all clinical activities. Prepare patients for surgery, including verification, teaching, and pre-op checks. Respond to changes in patient condition and escalate care appropriately. Participate in ongoing professional development and unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
