A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

2pm-10:30pm Position Summary The Correctional Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to incarcerated individuals in a secure correctional healthcare setting. Working independently and in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the RN assesses patient needs, develops and implements nursing care plans, administers medications and treatments, responds to medical emergencies, and supervises nursing personnel while maintaining compliance with correctional security procedures, professional nursing standards, and applicable regulations. Essential Responsibilities Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for inmates with acute, chronic, behavioral health, and rehabilitative healthcare needs. Perform comprehensive physical and nursing assessments, monitor patient conditions, and identify changes requiring medical intervention. Administer prescribed medications, intravenous therapies, immunizations, blood products (as authorized), and medical treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans to promote positive health outcomes. Serve as a charge nurse or staff nurse by coordinating nursing services and ensuring continuity of care during assigned shifts. Supervise, delegate, and evaluate the work of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and other nursing support staff. Respond promptly to medical emergencies by providing assessment, triage, emergency nursing interventions, and coordination with emergency medical services when necessary. Assist healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and specialty clinics. Conduct intake health assessments, chronic care monitoring, sick call, medication administration, and discharge planning as assigned. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in electronic health records, including medication administration records, nursing notes, and incident reports. Communicate effectively with physicians, correctional officers, administrators, and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care and operational concerns. Maintain accountability for controlled substances, narcotics, medical equipment, and clinical supplies. Promote infection prevention practices and ensure compliance with established healthcare and correctional safety protocols. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance activities, mandatory education, and continuing professional development. Maintain professional boundaries while providing ethical, respectful, and patient-centered nursing care within a secure correctional environment. Qualifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of emergency nursing, chronic disease management, medication administration, and correctional healthcare practices. Ability to supervise nursing personnel and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Proficiency in electronic health record documentation and basic computer applications. Work Environment Secure correctional healthcare setting serving an adult inmate population. Frequent collaboration with correctional officers, physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health professionals, and other healthcare staff. Rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call responsibilities may be required. Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and responding to emergency medical situations. Strict adherence to institutional security procedures and personal safety protocols is required at all times.
