The GI Lab Nurse provides professional nursing care and clinical support during gastrointestinal procedures, serving primarily as a circulator in the procedure room and functioning as a GI technician as needed. Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in accordance with established nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and Waterfront Surgery Center policies and procedures, this position ensures the procedure room, equipment, supplies, and patient care environment are fully prepared for each procedure. The GI Lab Nurse also serves as a clinical resource to staff, supports the orientation and training of new GI Lab personnel, maintains competency in gastroenterology nursing, and promotes safe, efficient, high-quality patient care. Responsibilities Provide professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Serve as a circulator for GI procedures and scrub as required. Function as a GI technician as needed. Prepare and maintain procedure rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies according to physician preferences and established protocols. Ensure the procedure room is fully prepared and ready for the physician and patient. Serve as a resource regarding surgeon preferences, procedures, practices, and GI Lab protocols. Promote patient safety and provide a safe environment designed to prevent injury, infection, and other potential complications. Recognize, investigate, and appropriately intervene in problem situations; report unusual incidents or occurrences to the Director of Nursing or Executive Director and complete required documentation. Maintain adequate inventory and supply levels and monitor product utilization to identify opportunities for improvement. Assist with product evaluation and implementation of new equipment, supplies, procedures, and concepts that improve patient care, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Develop, maintain, and update procedures and guidelines related to specialized GI equipment and clinical practices. Communicate pertinent patient, procedural, and operational information effectively with physicians, nurses, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team. Support a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, productive performance, professional development, and continuous learning. Assist with the orientation and cross-training of surgery center staff regarding GI Lab procedures, policies, equipment, and practices. Identify educational and training needs and participate in or provide in-service education and continuing education activities. Ensure staff performance is consistent with established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Participate in Waterfront Surgery Center committees, meetings, quality initiatives, and other activities as appropriate. Assume charge nurse responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing, as assigned. Participate in annual fire/safety, infection control, and other required educational programs. Maintain current knowledge of safety procedures and infection prevention practices. Participate in professional development activities and maintain appropriate professional affiliations. Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy requirements. Maintain clinical competency in gastroenterology nursing and GI procedural care. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of GI Lab/gastroenterology nursing experience . Preferred Qualifications Experience in an ambulatory surgery center or outpatient procedural environment. Experience serving as a preceptor, trainer, or clinical resource. Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and procedural safety standards. Previous nurse leadership experience. Licensure and Certifications Currently Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
