Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Emergency Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to diverse patient populations across various travel assignments, ensuring prompt, effective, and compassionate treatment in fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate will possess extensive emergency medicine experience, critical care expertise, and proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic and Cerner. Your expertise in trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and acute pain management will be instrumental in delivering high-quality patient outcomes during urgent and emergent situations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient recovery while experiencing diverse clinical settings across the country. Duties Deliver immediate assessment and triage of patients presenting with acute medical conditions in emergency settings, utilizing advanced physiology knowledge and trauma protocols. Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations to ensure patient safety. Perform advanced procedures such as suturing, catheterization, ventilator management, and tube feeding with precision and adherence to sterile techniques. Conduct comprehensive physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and diagnostic evaluations to inform clinical decision-making. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians specializing in cardiology, ophthalmology, infectious disease, hospice & palliative medicine, behavioral health, pediatrics, geriatrics, and neonatal care. Maintain accurate medical documentation within EMR/EHR systems like Epic and Cerner for legal compliance and continuity of care. Support discharge planning by providing patient education on medication administration, wound care (ostomy), nutrition, and post-acute care needs. Manage complex cases involving workers' compensation law cases or patients with developmental disabilities or memory care requirements. Ensure infection control standards are rigorously followed during all procedures to prevent cross-contamination. Participate in ongoing training on
ICD-9/ICD-10
coding for accurate documentation and billing purposes. Qualifications Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from an accredited nursing program with current state licensure. Minimum of two years of emergency room experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers; ICU or hospital medicine experience is highly desirable. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner; experience with Athenahealth is a plus. Strong knowledge of critical care procedures including airway management, ventilator support, neonatal resuscitation procedures, and infectious disease protocols. Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges. Demonstrated ability to perform advanced clinical skills such as suturing, phlebotomy, venipuncture, dialysis access management, and laboratory specimen collection. Familiarity with medical imaging interpretation relevant to emergency diagnostics like sonography or mammography is advantageous. Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments. Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance and NCQA standards for quality assurance. Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) are preferred.
