The Ambulatory Pre-Op/Post-Op RN delivers safe, patient- and family-centered care across the surgical continuum. This role utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to prepare patients for procedures and manage their recovery before discharge
Pre-Operative Care:
Perform physical and psychosocial patient assessments, review medical histories, and verify surgical site/informed consent. Review daily schedules, prepare clinical care areas, and complete pre-operative phone interviews or scheduling. Start intravenous (IV) lines, administer pre-op medications, and obtain necessary diagnostic test results. Communicate patient status changes or clinical concerns to surgeons, anesthesiologists, and family members. Post-Operative /
PACU Recovery Care:
Monitor patient vitals, hemodynamic status, and level of consciousness as they emerge from anesthesia or sedation. Manage post-procedural pain, treat side effects like nausea, and use aseptic technique for wound or surgical site checks. Complete post-anesthesia documentation and verify that strict clinical discharge criteria are fully met. Deliver thorough discharge instructions and post-op care education to the patient and their designated caregiver. Who We Are At Vitruvian Health, we serve with compassion.
