Job Description

Methodist Healthcare in San Antonio is seeking a Lung Rescue ICU Registered Nurse to provide advanced, evidence-based care to critically ill pulmonary and ECMO patients. This RN will perform comprehensive assessments, manage ventilators and complex infusions, respond rapidly to changes in condition, and collaborate closely with intensivists, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include implementing individualized care plans, patient and family education, maintaining accurate documentation, and upholding safety, infection control, and quality standards. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill lung rescue and ICU patients Manage ventilators, ECMO support, and complex drips under physician direction Continuously assess patient status and respond rapidly to clinical changes Administer medications and treatments in accordance with ICU protocols Collaborate with intensivists, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary team members Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and ongoing care Maintain accurate, timely electronic documentation and care plans Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and unit initiatives Support orientation and mentoring of new staff as needed Required Skills Critical care nursing Ventilator management ECMO support familiarity Hemodynamic monitoring IV medication and drip titration Advanced cardiac life support Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Infection prevention and control Patient and family education Interdisciplinary care coordination
