• Job Summary
• As a Registered Nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), you will provide safe, compassionate, and comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions who require a higher level of monitoring and care than a traditional medical-surgical setting.

The 40-bed IMCU cares for patients with cardiac conditions, stroke, and multi-organ dysfunction. You will perform comprehensive assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, and evaluate patient responses to care. You will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care and promote positive patient outcomes. You will follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and appropriately delegate tasks based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice.

• Essential Functions of the Role
• + As an RN, conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.

Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans and adjust interventions based on patient response.

+ Provide care to adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions, including patients with stroke and multi-organ dysfunction.

+ Closely monitor patients and recognize changes in condition, escalating concerns and interventions appropriately to promote patient safety.

+ Administer medications, IV therapies, and other treatments according to patient needs and established standards of care.

+ Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.

+ Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and ongoing healthcare needs. Assess and document learning needs and patient understanding.

+ Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate individualized plans of care.

+ Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice, while following up to ensure care is completed safely and effectively.

+ Use critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to identify patient needs, prioritize care, and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.

+ Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

+ Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting peers, participating in professional development, and promoting quality and patient safety.

• Key Success Factors
• + Strong understanding of nursing principles, patient care standards, and acute-care procedures.

+ Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and the care of patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions.

+ Ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.

+ Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines, including the Texas Nursing Practice Act.

+ Proficiency in medical terminology, common medications, disease processes, and treatment interventions.

+ Understanding of professional nursing ethics, patient privacy, and confidentiality.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.

+ Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to prioritize and manage care for multiple patients in a fast-paced, higher-acuity environment.

+ Basic computer skills, including electronic medical documentation, email, Microsoft Office, and other hospital systems.

• Position Details
• + 40-bed Intermediate Care Unit + Adult cardiac, stroke, and multi-organ dysfunction patient population + Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5 + 12-hour night shifts: 7:00 PM-7:00 AM + Full-time, 36 hours per week + Self-scheduling

• + Grad of an Accredited Program + Specialized field of study should be nursing.

+ RN license.

+ Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
