A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.
Meadow Reproductive Health and Wellness is a non-profit reproductive health clinic founded in 2024 with a mission to provide highest quality, accessible reproductive healthcare (including abortion services) with compassion, dignity and professionalism to patients regardless of their ability to pay, from local communities and from states with abortion bans that threaten access to modern medical care. We offer comprehensive gynecologic care including contraception and wellness screening, as well as abortion care for those who choose it. Our sole purpose is to increase and defend access to quality reproductive and sexual healthcare. Our location is close to major highways and Metro accessible, providing geographic feasibility for those in Northern Virginia as well as those traveling by air or from locations further away. Fundamental to our mission and vision is to build a cohesive care team who collaborate and support each other and the rest of the clinic staff in order to build consistently excellent care to the greatest number of patients possible.
Position Overview:
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering comprehensive general and gynecological care according to our philosophy (above) for the patients at Meadow Reproductive Health and Wellness. The practitioner will practice in a safe and proficient manner, keeping our policies and procedures and the individual patient's needs in mind at all times. The APRN provides direct and indirect patient centered reproductive health care under the guidance of the Medical Director, in close cooperation with staff, nurses, and the clinic management team. The APRN is responsible for treating patients within their scope of practice, as outlined in our protocols and directed by the Medical Director at our facility. The ideal candidate is responsible for maintaining license/certification renewals, CPR every two years, and continuing education credits. The APRN should be a dependable asset to the practice demonstrating an exemplary role in the aspects of punctuality, attendance, accountability, initiative, positive attitude, and team support. This is a flexible onsite role for a Nurse Practitioner (NP or WHNP) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) specializing in reproductive and sexual health. We are expecting to start a position at the beginning of August 2026. Clinical •_ Responsibilities•_ Provides or participates in all reproductive health care services offered by Meadow Reproductive Health and Wellness, including medical and procedural abortion care and gender-affirming care. Provides primary care services for all individuals, including reproductive health and general gynecology care. Collects and reviews patients' complete health history and records findings accurately and promptly within our patients' medical charts and health records.. Develops diagnoses and care plans in partnership with the patient. Performs physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive system. Provides cancer screenings, testing, and diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections and performs other types of more specialized procedures as indicated and privileged to perform. Performs and orders diagnostic studies as indicated and provides appropriate treatment and follow-up as necessary. Reviews patient records, noting changing conditions and needs, measuring health outcomes against patient care standards, and evolving care plans as appropriate. Provides reproductive health education and collaborates with the health center team, other community agencies, and external providers to provide comprehensive care. Educates patients on family planning contraceptive methods and healthy lifestyle choices. Establishes patient goals in partnership with the patient. Educates patients on diagnosed conditions, medications, and self care skills. Answers patient's questions related to their diagnoses or care and provides information and resources. Conducts visits via in person or video to diagnose and treat issues and conditions related to reproductive and sexual health. Assures quality care by adhering to professional standards, organization policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations, including Grace Family Planning program requirements. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Adheres to legal regulations and other organization standards and guidelines. Alerts others regarding potential concerns. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure patient satisfaction and organizational success. Additional Responsibilities Keeps patient protected health information confidential and secure, and ensures that HIPAA guidelines are fully understood and followed. Engages in educational workshops, reviews professional publications, and establishes personal professional networks to promote professional growth and knowledge. Maintains a cooperative relationship among team members.
Desired Qualifications:
Licensed in the state of Virginia or willing to become licensed in VA. Has five years as a NP or another APRN specialty, working in an outpatient clinical role, with at least one year or more specifically with family planning and reproductive/sexual health focus. (CNM and WHNP specialties are preferred but not required.) Skilled to provide ultrasound for gestational dating and IUD localization with documented proficiency within the last three years. Skilled to provide medication abortion care and skilled in procedural abortion or willing to be trained. Trained and comfortable in providing gender affirming hormone therapy to adults. Demonstrates commitment to collaborative care with both patients and staff. Demonstrates strong communication skills. Willing to train and supervise clinical and support staff and volunteers Experienced working with populations of interest, including underserved and marginalized communities, and has knowledge of social determinants of health and trauma informed care. Demonstrates ability to work well with people of diverse cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds. Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred but is not necessary.
