Job Description

Job Purpose:
Using critical thinking, performs allergy tests and educates patients on the results and immunotherapy in general. Creates an allergy serum prescription in accordance with standing orders and mixes the corresponding allergy serum. Provides patient allergy shots. Provides guidance to other staff as an expert in Allergy, including Providers. Partners with the Allergy Lead and Providers to ensure patient safety and efficacy of immunotherapy. Primary focus for this position is in the Allergy Department; however, the expectation is to also deliver excellent patient care in all aspects of the clinic within scope of certification, license, and training. This role requires impeccable attention to detail. Assists part-time in the Ambulatory Surgery Center, specifically as Circulator, Surgery Technologist and/or Recovery Nurse.
Job Duties:
  • Perform Allergy testing as ordered by the Provider after medically evaluating the patient's vitals and fitness for testing within scope of practice.
  • Educates patients on environmental and food allergies.
  • Interpret clinical allergy data to program Immunotherapy plan based on specific guidelines and mixes the serum with 100% accuracy.
  • Provide emergency care with particular focus on anaphylaxis in partnership with Providers.
  • Maintains and organizes the Allergy Department inventory in the auxiliary clinic including monitoring stock and supplies. Keeps the Department and Practice in general neat and clean.
  • Partner with the Lead Allergist in all aspects of running the Allergy Department including teaching skills and emergency training as programmed by the Lead.
  • Covers the Lead Allergist during absences.
  • Assist Providers will all aspects of patient care including standard rooming, minor procedures, blood draws, IV and other tests. May be formally trained in Audiology upon the Physician's preference.
  • Assist in the OR and Recovery in the Ambulatory Surgery Center as needed in the capacity of Circulator, Surgery Technologist and/or Recovery Nurse.
  • Counsel patients regarding surgery related questions based on Provider orders.
  • Keep ASC equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies plus recommending repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations including HIPAA.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications and keeping up to date on all licensures.
  • Enhance Practice reputation by accepting ownership of responsibilities and requests; exploring opportunities to add value to the Practice and maintaining a professional presence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Preferably experience with allergy testing. Experience with Xtract a plus.
  • At least two years of experience with patient care. Experience with EMA from Mod Med a plus.
  • At least one year of experience in the OR preferred.
  • Critical thinking to make patient focused decisions while maintaining effective business practices.
  • Ability to stay calm and follow protocols in an emergency situation.
  • Clear and concise verbal communication with a focus on patient education.
  • Affable bedside manner and the upmost professionalism in manner and presentation.
  • The ability to partner closely with the Lead Allergist as well as other medical staff; take direction from multiple sources including the Clinical Manager.
  • The expectation to work in multiple locations.
  • Adherence to scope of practice and all nursing skills such as infection control, patient safety, HIPAA.
  • Current CPR certification
Education/Certifications:
Licensed Registered Nurse Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pay:
$40.00 - $48.00 per hour
