RESPONSIBILITIES
Register patients for outpatient services, ensuring accuracy in financial and demographic data. Review and audit daily registrations to verify complete information for claim processing. Verify insurance coverage and assist in obtaining necessary prior authorizations. Serve as a backup for the Customer Service Front Desk, providing friendly in-person and phone support. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required. 2-3 years of experience in computerized hospital patient accounts preferred. Proficient in operating office equipment such as computers, adding machines, fax machines, photocopiers, and multi-line phones. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with patients and staff. High attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures accurately. Ability to maintain accurate records and stay organized in a high-volume environment. Must be able to sit, walk, stoop, and occasionally lift light to moderate weight during the workday. Manual dexterity and the ability to handle psychological stressors associated with a busy healthcare setting are essential.
ENVIRONMENT
South Peninsula Hospital is a 22-bed Critical Access Hospital with an attached 28-bed Long-Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The Registration Representative works primarily indoors in a clean, well-maintained, and supportive environment within the Patient Financial Services Department. While most work is administrative, moderate mobility is required, and the role can involve high psychological demands during peak periods or emotionally sensitive situations. Workplace hazards are minimal but may include stress related to managing multiple tasks and patient interactions simultaneously.
