Job Summary:
An admission counselor provides 24/7 coverage for the department on a rotational basis. Assist with bed assignments and carry out procedures to admit, register and/or discharge patients accurately and timely. This position requires that the admission counselor explain financial options to patients. It also involves the collection and processing of payments, eligibility verification, notification of admission to the Health Plan and provide discharge dates upon request. An admission counselor must ensure that customer properly fill out and sign all relevant forms and consent according to California Hospital Association consent manual. All tasks must be performed with close adherence to both hospital rules and regulatory compliance Perform other special duties in order to assist the health care personnel in their functions provided that the task is covered by their level of competency.Qualifications:
Education High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required) Work Experience Minimum one (1) year General clerical experience, in a business for healthcare environment or professional office involving public contact, is required. (required) Minimum two (2) years Experience in hospital admissions department or related (preferred) Skills and Abilities Computer Skills Will need to process insurance information and medical records, use the phone system, and learn Valley Children's specific software.Computer experience including:
spreadsheets, data entry, and word processing.Customer-Service Skills:
Must be able to work tactfully and professionally with patients, family members and all other hospital staff they encounter. Friendly, organized and knowledgeable about health care procedure.Communication Skills:
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills with preference to speaking English, Spanish or other languages. Understanding of the overall diversity of our patient population and treating everyone with respect and courtesy. Ability to problem solve, multi-task efficiently and organize and prioritize multiple tasks. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
