Job Description

Overview The Connecticut Proton Therapy Center (CPTC) is excited to invite applications for the position of Insurance Coordinator at our state-of-the-art facility in Wallingford, CT. CPTC dba Connecticut Proton is the first proton therapy center in Connecticut. It is a joint venture of Hartford Healthcare and Yale New Haven Healthcare. The Insurance Coordinator is responsible for the center's front-end procedures from insurance & benefit verification, co-pay collection, communication with the center staff and physicians, and coordinating the financial patient intake with CPTC's revenue cycle company. The Insurance Coordinator is also responsible for reviewing demographic, employment and insurance data necessary for payment for proton therapy treatment, responding to revenue cycle company's assigned edits, and assisting in staff education concerning compliance and comprehensive charge capture. The Insurance Coordinator may be asked to perform financial screening, to make financial arrangements and advise self-pay patients on alternative ways to meet their financial obligation, including but not limited to financial hardship screening, charity care and payment plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Review all charges prior to export to CPTC's revenue cycle company to ensure completeness of demographics, insurance information compliance and comprehensive charge capture with supporting documentation Responsible for daily monitoring and data entry after review of all charges Determines the insurance policy coverage regarding proton therapy, including, but not limited to: site, diagnosis, clinical and testing prerequisites, limits of coverage, patient responsibility, and referral Responsible for review and appeal of claims as they relate to all proton therapy services performed at the center Works with the Center Administrator and representatives of Partners in Healthcare Technology, the management company, on cases of financial hardship Serves as a contact to patients and patient families by providing basic information in response to inquiries and/or complaints regarding eligibility status /during treatment changes/concerns Maintains expert, current knowledge regarding code-capture, applicability to the services provided and compliance for documentation and correct coding Maintains current knowledge of all payer policies and procedures as they relate to proton therapy billing; make, communicate and educate staff on changes Understand and comply with charge master policies and procedures as established by the reimbursement contracts set forth by CPTC Exemplary customer satisfaction skills, including dealing effectively with the staff and the public, both in person and over the telephone Skilled Word, Excel and Outlook user Other duties as assigned by Managers Required skills and abilities:
Overall:
Ideal candidate will possess experience in third party billing and collection processes to ensure payer information is obtained and documented for efficient billing and collection; and experience with registration, admissions, financial hardship concepts, third party eligibility and enrollment, and a working knowledge of insurance Understanding of health insurance and benefit/service level details such as deductibles/OOP/coins Knowledge of medical CPT and ICD-10 experience, code capture through invoice preparation Experience in an Electronic Medical Record format Experience in Radiation Oncology or Proton Therapy preferred Organizational skills, and experience coordinating projects, setting priorities, meeting deadlines and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction Using initiative and independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines Exemplary customer satisfaction skills, Communicating effectively with co-workers, Managers, partner hospitals/medical practices, the general public, representatives of public and private organizations

Education/Degree/Qualifications:
A minimum of two years' experience in healthcare/billing/registration/accounting HS Diploma required, Bachelor's Degree preferred Certified Medical Coder or equivalent experience preferred
