Job Summary The hour requirements are 40 hours a week two weeks out of a month plus additional office hours as needed We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of medical administrative support, medical billing, and electronic health record (EHR) systems. This role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in medical coding, and a strong commitment to patient service. As a Medical Office Specialist, you will be responsible for managing patient appointments, verifying insurance coverage,, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Your expertise will contribute significantly to delivering exceptional patient care Duties Schedule patient appointments and coordinate clinic operations using EMR systems Verify insurance coverage and benefits through insurance providers, including Medicare and other payers, ensuring accurate billing and collections. Perform medical billing and coding using
CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10
codes to facilitate accurate reimbursement processes. work on accounts receivable collect payments Obtain authorizations for and follow ups Handle phone inquiries with professional phone etiquette across multi-line phone systems while providing excellent customer service. Assist with insurance verification, claims submission, follow-up on unpaid accounts, and collection efforts to optimize revenue cycle management. Support clinical staff by preparing care plans documentation and assisting with administrative tasks related to patient care coordination. Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations including HIPAA standards while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive health information. Experience Prior experience working in a medical office environment or healthcare setting is required; clinic or hospital experience is highly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures. Experience with insurance verification processes for Medicare and private insurers is essential. Bilingual abilities are advantageous to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations. Proven skills in clerical tasks including filing, data entry (10 key typing), document review, and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. Excellent customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities. Familiarity with dental terminology and dental office management software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft is a plus for dental clinic roles. Ability to adapt quickly to new technology platforms and maintain accuracy under pressure while supporting office management functions.
