Join our Team as a Patient Access Lead Are you passionate about helping patients navigate their healthcare experience while providing exceptional customer service and supporting a high-performing team? We're looking for a compassionate, caring, and dedicated Patient Access Lead to join our team and help us continue our tradition of excellence. In this role, you'll serve as an important resource for patients and employees by overseeing patient access functions, supporting registration and financial processes, and helping ensure patients receive a welcoming and efficient experience. As a trusted ambassador of Deaconess, you'll help foster an environment built on courtesy, respect, empathy, dignity, and optimism while supporting your team and ensuring departmental operations run smoothly.
What You'll Do:
Lead and support daily Patient Access operations, including registration, insurance verification, payment collection, financial processes, and post-admit functions. Collect patient information by phone, in person, at the bedside, in registration bays, or through the website to accurately register patients for outpatient, inpatient, and observation services. Verify insurance eligibility and discuss Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) when appropriate. Collect, secure, post, and reconcile patient payments; disperse change and accept deposits from other Deaconess cash collection and retail locations. Ensure compliance with applicable State and Federal regulations, hospital policies, and Standards of Employee Conduct. Greet patients and provide routing assistance, including arranging transportation or escorting patients to the appropriate point of service. Provide cross-coverage and operational support throughout the Access Department. Work with ADONs, physicians, and nursing staff to facilitate appropriate bed placement and admission order entry. Complete Work Queue functions, queries, and other administrative duties necessary to support patient access operations. Provide day-to-day leadership for a team of up to 45 employees, including posting schedules and coordinating employee PTO. Review employee timecards and ensure accurate payroll submission. Provide initial conflict intervention and assist supervisors with disciplinary matters when needed. Collect and calculate employee error rates and support quality and performance improvement efforts. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED is required. College degree is preferred. Knowledge of the healthcare revenue cycle is required. Understanding of health insurance and payer processes is required. Previous cash handling experience is required. Previous management or leadership experience is preferred.
