Job Description

Job Summary This position leads the Patient Access team by continuing education, training, communicating changes of processes and procedures and be on call for Patient Access questions and shift coverage. Job Responsibilities Train new and existing employees in patient registration functions which include the EC, OP, IP and Surgery center, how to read and properly load insurance information into the insurance registration pathways, and effective and respectful customer service techniques. Assist the Patient Access Manager with the schedule and provide on-call coverage for questions and employee call offs. Cover vacant shifts caused by call offs. Assist the Patient Access manager with creating and modifying policies and procedures. Complete all responsibilities of a Patient Access Specialist and work assigned shifts in this role. Provide coverage for additional hours necessary to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the Patient Access Team Lead. When training new or current employees fill their regular registration hours with PRNs or existing employees. Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements Minimum:
High School Diploma and Healthcare Certification Program completion in Billing, Coding, or Customer Service area or currently enrolled in related program. Extensive experience in Patient Access or Patient Accounts may be used in lieu of certification program completion.
Preferred:
Associates or bachelor's
Degree Experience Requirements Minimum:
Three (3) years' experience in Patient Access Registration in an acute care hospital and/or physician office setting. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required. Hospital or physician business office experience may be used in lieu of Patient Access experience. Technical expertise in all aspects of health care benefits including HMO's, PPO, indemnity plans as well as Medicare, Medicaid, and other local or State programs. Working knowledge of third party benefits limitations.

Seven (7) plus years' experience in Patient Access Registration in an acute care hospital and/or physician office setting. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required. Hospital or physician business office experience may be used in lieu of Patient Access experience. Technical expertise in all aspects of health care benefits including HMO's, PPO, indemnity plans as well as Medicare, Medicaid, and other local or State programs. Must also have a working knowledge of third party benefits limitations. License/Certification Requirements None required
