Job Description
Medical Office Assistant (MOA) with Phlebotomy
The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) with Phlebotomy is a bilingual (English/Spanish) role that provides both administrative and clinical support within a fast paced community health clinic setting. This position plays a critical role in supporting patient care, including intake, scheduling, and performing basic clinical procedures such as venipuncture. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, compassionate, and able to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations while ensuring accurate documentation and efficient clinic operations.
Work ScheduleMonday through Friday9:00 AM to 5:00 PMFull-time, on-siteFlexibility may be required based on clinic needsResponsibilitiesGather pre-examination information and patient case history detailsSchedule and process patient appointmentsObtain and assess patient information for billing and registration; enter data into electronic systemsCollect laboratory specimens and perform venipuncture as requiredPrepare slides and perform selected laboratory tests following established protocolsTake and record vital signsPrepare microscope slides and document findings in patient filesProvide clinical support services to ensure timely processing of specimens and test resultsMaintain inventory of office and medical suppliesEnsure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patient careAnswer incoming calls and respond to inquiries regarding clinic servicesProvide patient information and referral supportPerform light administrative and typing dutiesMaintain patient medical records, charts, and billing documentationEnsure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record systemQualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or GED requiredAND one of the following:
Completion of a Medical Assistant or phlebotomy training program from an accredited institution (CAAHEP, ABHES, ACCSC)ORAn Associate of Arts degree in a medical program that includes office practice, clinical skills, and completion of an externship from an accredited college or universityExperienceMinimum of one year of experience in a clinical settingLicenses, Registrations, and CertificationsPhlebotomy certification required from a nationally recognized certifying organizationCurrent CPR or BLS certification requiredBilingual (English and Spanish) requiredSome positions may also require:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)Certified Medication Technician (CMT)Health and Compliance RequirementsMust provide proof of:
PPD or chest X-rayMMR vaccinationMay be required to obtain or provide documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination or immunityMust complete and maintain CPR certification for adults, children, and infantsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of medical billing practicesKnowledge of computerized medical databases and electronic health record systems (Epic highly preferred)Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and clinical/laboratory proceduresKnowledge of patient confidentiality and professional liability standardsAbility to accurately enter and manage medical data in electronic systemsAbility to triage and obtain information from patientsAbility to perform venipuncture on pediatric and adult patientsAbility to follow clinical instructions carefully and accuratelyAbility to perform routine medical tests, screenings, and proceduresStrong organizational skills and attention to detailStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual communication platformsPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic as neededAbility to ambulate stairs in response to patient or clinic needsBackground CheckCandidates selected for positions of trust will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting prior to employment.
