Job Description
The Patient Check-Out Clerk is responsible for managing the patient check-out process, collecting and posting payments, selling contact lenses, and completing daily closing procedures in the practice management system to ensure accurate financial records and a smooth patient experience. Key Responsibilities Greet patients at check-out and process final visit transactions Collect patient payments (cash, credit/debit, checks, or other approved methods) and accurately apply them to patient accounts Sell contact lenses and related products, including explaining options and pricing Verify insurance information and patient balances as needed during check-out Perform daily closing procedures in the practice management system, including reconciling payments, balancing the cash drawer, and generating end-of-day reports Maintain accurate patient financial records and resolve minor billing discrepancies Provide excellent customer service and address basic patient questions regarding payments or product purchases Assist with other front-office duties as assigned to support clinic operations Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in a medical, dental, or optometry office preferred Experience handling cash, credit card transactions, and basic bookkeeping Familiarity with practice management or electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred Strong attention to detail, accuracy with numbers, and organizational skills Excellent communication and customer-service skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality of patient information Preferred Skills Knowledge of contact lens products and basic optical terminology Experience with insurance billing or patient collections Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office or similar software
