Patient interaction Medical terminology Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Job Summary Sleep Medicine specialty clinic•office and medical assistant , part-time, non-benefitted seeking 1 team member for in-person days , and 1 for hybrid (remote and in-person) role high volume patient communication (phone calls, emails, texts, portal messages) requires independent function (with excellent support) ability to multi-task, adapt, and complete work in a timely manner technologically intensive (almost all tasks require comfort with computer use and multiple software programs) schedule : in-person office days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; remote days are Tuesday and Thursday; standard office hours (no nights or weekends)•Who are we looking for? We are looking for a Medical Assistant to join our dynamic practice. An interested , coachable , and hardworking candidate will help us serve our broad patient base. We need someone who is comfortable speaking to patients in a warm, kind, and professional manner. The ideal candidate will also be able to handle a diverse workload , multi-task efficiently, and complete work in a timely manner. As the "face" of the clinic, it is important that you have a pleasant demeanor, patience, and compassion . We rely heavily on technology, and will require someone who is familiar and comfortable learning new software and processes. You will also need to be able to troubleshoot and help patients if they need guidance through the EMR, portal, or communications. Experience is preferred, but not required. We know Sleep Medicine is a unique niche and we are very happy to train the right candidate! New or recent graduates are welcome! We hope to recruit someone who is a good fit for our team and plans to stay with us for the long-term .•A typical day: We do a lot of telehealth and virtual patient visits. We also meet patients in-person for patient visits, picking up and returning home sleep testing kits, as well as CPAP and medical equipment.
A typical day involves:
taking phone calls and triaging patient concerns patient communications such as appointment reminders, updates, follow ups, etc. virtual and in-person patient check-in and check-out appropriate documentation, chart prep, and any ancillary paperwork (forms related to the patient visit, data review, etc.) scheduling and preparing home sleep kits for pickup and after return set up for CPAP therapy and supply pickup excellent communication with team members•By its very nature, the field allows us a more relaxed, fun, and friendly atmosphere amongst ourselves and with our patients. We want someone who can enjoy and bring an element of levity. We expect to treat each other and our patients with the highest level of respect and professionalism while ensuring we can all end our day with a smile or laugh!•
Duties and Expectations:
Answer phones in a friendly, warm, and welcoming manner. Be aware of patient information, and know the tools to help (such as chart review, communication follow ups, etc.). Be comfortable taking vital signs, medical history, and medication lists. Learn and know medications, devices, and data pertinent to Sleep Medicine (with focus on being confident on educating patients on PAP masks, machines, etc. where necessary). Communicate clearly and effectively, both in speech and in writing. Phone, text, and email confidence is required. Comfort in dealing with patients of all ages (infant through geriatric). Utilize eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters, medical records, and data collection. Be thorough, reliable, and accountable. Discuss cases with supervising physician. Be active, interested, and enthusiastic striving for excellence every day! Skills Proficiency with eClinicalWorks for documentation and data management. Confidence in Microsoft Office products (Outlook for email, Teams for messaging, Word and Excel for productivity, and others as the need arises); comfort with learning new software Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding, CPT coding for procedures, and diagnostic evaluation techniques. Experience with sleep medicine including an understanding of interpretation of sleep studies, PAP management, medication management, and behavioral interventions and techniques Familiarity with telehealth platforms to provide remote patient check-in and check-out effectively. Knowledge of medical coding systems including ICD-10 for billing purposes; experience with CPT coding is preferred. Capable of dealing with diverse patient populations across geriatrics and pediatrics.
