Working for WIC provides the opportunity to help people receive supplemental nutritious foods, breastfeeding assistance, and guide people in a participant-centered approach to reach their health goals. This position is primarily responsible for administrative support within WIC clinics and helping screen and certify people on the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
Specific job duties include:
Performs front desk reception activities, including answering phones, responding to questions and inquiries, scheduling appointments, accepting and distributing mail, and providing information to the public and other agencies. Checks in clients when they arrive for WIC services. Schedules and re-schedules participant appointments according to processing standard requirements. Informs the public and agency workers on a variety of health promotion and disease prevention programs available. Adheres to the confidentiality standards of applicable Privacy Acts. Determines WIC eligibility in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and procedures. Explains program procedures, regulations, processes and time frames to applicants and representatives. Assesses nutritional needs of WIC participants based on clinical and socioeconomic information. Determines eligibility, and explains eligibility criteria, participant responsibility and WIC policies. Receives training and experience in the evaluation of eligibility factors in specific cases against established criteria. Accurately documents information on residency, income, and family situation in a computerized participant database. Obtains, evaluates, and documents measurements of stature/length, weight, and hemoglobin. Conducts ongoing quality assurance in laboratory procedures. Evaluates family needs for health care, financial and social assistance in order to make and document appropriate referrals. Issues food benefits to eligible WIC participants. Maintains security and inventory of food benefit supplies. Participates in community outreach activities. Attends meetings, trainings and conferences as required. Conducts eligibility re-determination by reviewing eligibility factors to determine propriety of continuation, modification, or termination of public assistance. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED Must have transportation CPR Certified or complete CPR certification soon after hire. Preferred Requirements Previous Healthcare Experience Previous Customer Service Experience Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
