JOB SUMMARY
The Registration Clerk is responsible for registering patients for emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services according to policy and procedure established by the hospital as well as verifying all insurance coverage and benefits. Serves as the first point of contact for patients presenting to the facility for service. Must professionally and courteously collect monies due to facility.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school graduate or GED preferred. One or two years of college preferred.
Experience:
One-year experience in a hospital setting with public contact work preferred. Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
None Skills:
Proficient with computers and excellent customer service skills.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Gathers accurate demographic and financial information on Inpatient/Outpatient registration. 2. Prepares patient ID cards, wrist bands, patient folders, and appropriate forms. 3. Collects admission deposits, copays and deductibles. 4. Directs patients to the appropriate inpatient department. 5. Distributes appropriate forms to ancillary departments. 6. Monitors diagnostic tests ordered by physicians for medical necessity according to government guidelines. 7. Verifies patient's insurance coverage/benefits and documents information in the
AS400. 8.
Notifies the Business Office of Self-pay patients and UR Department of Insurance coverage issues.
