JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for accurately registering patients and supporting the financial clearance process while creating a positive and professional patient experience. This position utilizes knowledge of Medicare, TennCare, commercial insurance, healthcare payment methodologies, financial assistance programs, payment plans, and basic healthcare coding practices to ensure accurate patient and financial information. The Patient Access Registrar communicates financial responsibilities clearly, assists patients with available payment options, and applies strong customer service, negotiation, and collection skills while following established organizational policies and procedures.
DUTIES:
Registers patients accurately and efficiently, ensuring demographic, insurance, financial, and service information is complete and properly documented. Verifies insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare, TennCare, and commercial insurance, using applicable computer systems, payer websites, and other verification resources. Reviews patient financial responsibility and clearly communicates estimated costs, copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, and other applicable balances. Collects patient payments and utilizes effective negotiation and collection techniques while maintaining professionalism, sensitivity, and excellent customer service. Educates patients regarding available payment plans, financial assistance programs, and applicable organizational policies and procedures. Maintains working knowledge of hospital and FHG clinical departments, service protocols, payment guidelines, and healthcare coding practices to support accurate registration and appropriate patient routing. Responds to patient, family, staff, and provider questions regarding registration, insurance, and financial processes and appropriately escalates complex concerns when necessary. Utilizes office equipment, computer systems, and patient access applications effectively while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, productivity, and compliance with established procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • 2 Years of Related Healthcare Experience Preferred
  • Solid Understanding of Healthcare Terminology. Preferred
  • Strong communication skills. Strong work ethic and energy. Preferred
  • Thrives in a Demanding and Professional Environment. Preferred
  • Excellent Business Judgment and Customer Service Skills. Preferred
  • Able to Distill Patient Financial Information and Present Essential Information in a Concise Manner.
