JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Services Specialist (PSS) is responsible for welcoming and directing patients, answering, screening, routing phone calls, and checking patients in and out. Main responsibilities of a PSS can include collecting co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, outstanding balances, and processing referrals.
Job Specific:
Greet patients. (EF) Promptly answer and direct all incoming phone calls to the appropriate area. (EF) Check-in and register patients in and out accurately and efficiently. (EF) Verify and update all patient demographics. (EF) Obtain, confirm, and enter patient insurance information. (EF) Schedule and pre-register patients according to clinic protocol and guidelines. (EF) Prepare charts and print encounter tickets prior to patient visit. (EF) Confirm appointments and document responses in EMR. (EF) Receive and upload laboratory, imaging, and other procedural results into the patient's e-chart. Collect outstanding balances, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles. (EF) Reconcile the cash drawer as per CMP Business Office guidelines. Process appointment-based referrals. (EF)
Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations. Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Performs within the professional Scope of Practice at all times.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required:
High School education or
GED Preferred:
Education and/or training related to the clinic specialty.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
At least one year of experience in a healthcare related field.
Preferred:
Prior experience working in a medical practice/office.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required:
Basic computer skills, an ability to effectively communicate, and a willingness to travel to satellite clinics.
Preferred:
Familiar with medical terminology, proficient in Microsoft Office, and prior experience with an electronic medical record platform.
LICENSURE/CERTFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Current Texas Driver's License Preferred:
Current certification related to the physician practice or clinical setting.
