Non-Exempt Position Summary The Referral Coordinator is responsible for coordinating specialty care for patients requiring internal or external consultations as requested by their primary care physician. This role schedules, tracks, and manages referral cases across all ambulatory clinics while providing excellent customer service and supporting Bath Community Hospital's mission and values. Essential Functions Demonstrate excellent patient relations skills in person and by telephone. Ensure complete and accurate patient demographic information. Process referrals by preparing medical records and coordinating specialty appointments. Track and document referrals through completion. Schedule outpatient testing and maintain documentation. Maintain knowledge of clinic operations and medical terminology. Prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing needs. Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and specialists. Work collaboratively with the healthcare team. Attend required meetings and education. Comply with all BCH policies and regulatory requirements. Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as needed. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Relevant experience demonstrating ability to perform job responsibilities (required) Medical Assistant certification preferred. Experience Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a family practice outpatient setting preferred. Experience working with pediatric and adult patients preferred. Licensure/Certifications None required Competencies Working knowledge of medical terminology. Computer proficiency with the ability to quickly learn new applications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to coordinate care among multiple healthcare providers. Professional demeanor and commitment to patient confidentiality. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Manual dexterity for keyboarding and office equipment. Ability to push, pull, and lift as required. Ability to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing. Hand-eye coordination for computer and clerical tasks. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds as needed Working Conditions Work performed in an outpatient clinical setting. Exposure to indoor and occasional outdoor environments. Exposure to biological, chemical, and mechanical hazards. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate. Noise levels range from quiet office settings to busy clinical environments.
