Job Description

Boone Memorial Hospital is looking for a friendly, organized, and customer-focused Patient Service Specialist to join our outpatient clinic team. As the first point of contact for our patients, you'll play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment while ensuring our clinics operate efficiently. Position Summary The Patient Service Specialist ("PSS") is responsible for sustaining an effective support structure by managing the administrative and clerical tasks in an outpatient clinical setting of Boone Memorial Health, Inc. ("BMH"). The Patient Service Specialist will coordinate and organize appointments and documentation to facilitate the smooth running of the healthcare environment and support delivery of quality patient care. Essential Functions Welcome and assist patients, visitors, and providers with professionalism and compassion. Greet patients in person and over the phone. Register patients accurately and efficiently. Help patients' complete registration, insurance, and medical documentation. Explain office procedures and policies to patients. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Schedule appointments to maximize provider efficiency and patient satisfaction. Prepare daily provider schedules. Manage patient flow throughout appointments. Obtain outside medical records as requested. Answer and route incoming phone calls professionally. Respond promptly to requests for information. Maintain accurate patient records and billing information. Collect co-pays and patient payments. Prepare reports and statistics as needed. Process incoming and outgoing mail. Monitor office supplies and coordinate maintenance requests. Keep the reception area clean, organized, and welcoming. Perform additional clerical duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent One (1) year of customer service or patient registration experience in a healthcare setting preferred BLS Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire) Skills and Competencies Outstanding customer service skills Excellent verbal and written communication Strong organizational and multitasking abilities High attention to detail Professional, positive attitude Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment Strong problem-solving skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications Physical Requirements This position requires: Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds Equal Employment Opportunity Policy Boone Memorial Health is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
