A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Duties Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, oxygen saturation levels, and respiratory function tests to determine appropriate therapy plans. Manage and operate a variety of respiratory devices such as ventilators, nebulizers, CPAP/BiPAP machines, and oxygen delivery systems. Administer respiratory treatments and medications accurately while monitoring patient responses for safety and effectiveness. Respond swiftly to cardiac arrest emergencies and participate in life-saving procedures such as neonatal resuscitation and airway management. Document all patient interactions, treatments, and responses accurately within Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs. Provide education to patients and families regarding respiratory conditions, device usage, and post-discharge care instructions. Qualifications Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Proven experience in hospital medicine with a focus on critical care environments such as ICU or Emergency Department settings. Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pulmonology, and medical terminology relevant to respiratory therapy. Hands-on experience with ventilator management, airway management techniques, and advanced respiratory equipment operation. Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments across diverse populations including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems for documentation and communication within healthcare teams. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are preferred.
