A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Responsibilities Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients in acute and sub-acute settings Administer and monitor oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, and ventilator support Perform respiratory assessments and interpret diagnostic tests such as ABGs and spirometry Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and adjust care plans Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and home care Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory standards Ensure safe operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of respiratory equipment Follow infection control, safety, and quality improvement protocols Adapt quickly to new facilities, EMR systems, and unit workflows as a travel nurse Participate in shift handoffs and communicate changes in patient status promptly Required Skills Mechanical ventilation management Arterial blood gas interpretation Respiratory assessment Non-invasive ventilation (Bi
