What they do

A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Complexity of Work:
This role requires critical thinking skills, effective communication, decisive judgment, and the ability to build and foster positive relationships. The incumbent must be able to lead others and take appropriate action when required. Must be able to safely and securely fasten seat belts and shoulder harnesses in aircraft or ambulance, as provided by the aircraft or ambulance manufacturer, without modification to those safety devices.
Required Work Experience:
Three (3) years of Neonatal or Pediatric critical care experience required. Must complete Neonatal Pediatric Specialist within one (1) year of hire date: PFCCS - Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support; Neonatal Transport (MHS course) Memorial Healthcare System is a community of caregivers dedicated to delivering quality patient- and family-centered care.
