The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and monitoring residents with cardiopulmonary conditions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality respiratory care while promoting resident comfort, safety, and improved clinical outcomes. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in long-term care practices and committed to providing exceptional resident-centered care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assess residents with acute and chronic respiratory conditions and develop appropriate respiratory care plans. Administer respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, and airway clearance techniques. Monitor residents receiving oxygen therapy and ensure compliance with physician orders and facility protocols. Evaluate residents' respiratory status and communicate changes promptly to the physician and interdisciplinary team. Manage respiratory equipment, including oxygen concentrators, portable oxygen systems, suction equipment, CPAP/BiPAP devices, and nebulizers. Perform pulse oximetry and other respiratory assessments as indicated. Educate residents, families, and staff on respiratory treatments, equipment use, and disease management. Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation therapists, speech-language pathologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to optimize resident outcomes. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Participate in care conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings. Assist with infection prevention initiatives related to respiratory care. Ensure respiratory equipment is maintained, cleaned, and functioning according to manufacturer guidelines and facility policies. Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities and support compliance with CMS, state, and local regulations. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Current state Respiratory Therapist license in good standing. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required, based on state regulations. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS preferred. Minimum of three years of respiratory therapy experience preferred; experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or subacute care is highly desirable. Knowledge of respiratory equipment, oxygen safety, infection prevention, and long-term care regulations. Excellent assessment, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
