A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Full Job Description Role Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, including medication administration, ventilator management, and patient assessments, primarily in critical care settings. They perform invasive and non-invasive procedures, interpret waveforms and arterial blood gases, and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans. The RT II educates patients and supports staff development, ensuring high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care. They promote a positive work environment, support patient safety initiatives, and comply with organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver comprehensive respiratory therapy and patient education Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for optimal care planning Perform ventilator management, airway procedures, and diagnostic testing Mentor and precept new staff, students, and peers Ensure safety through accurate documentation and adherence to protocols Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Skills:
Associates or Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy (preferred)
Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NBRC-RRT or RCP 0-2 years of clinical experience with at least 6 months in critical care Strong communication, critical thinking, and computer skills Ability to establish effective relationships with healthcare professionals and patients
