Job Description
Wellstar Health System seeks a Lead Respiratory Therapist to provide advanced respiratory care and team leadership within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will coordinate daily workflow, oversee ventilator management, and support complex respiratory interventions across acute and critical care settings. You will mentor therapists, support education and competency, and collaborate with physicians and nursing to deliver safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care. Responsibilities Coordinate and oversee daily respiratory therapy operations on assigned units Deliver advanced respiratory care, including ventilator and high-flow oxygen management Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized respiratory care plans Serve as clinical resource and mentor for respiratory therapy staff and students Support staff scheduling, assignments, and workflow prioritization Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory standards Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care Assist with staff education, competency validation, and onboarding Monitor quality metrics and participate in performance improvement initiatives Document care accurately in electronic medical records and support effective handoffs Required Skills Ventilator management (invasive and non-invasive) Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Airway management and secretion clearance techniques Advanced respiratory assessment and care planning High-flow and oxygen therapy modalities Respiratory equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance Knowledge of respiratory pharmacology and aerosol therapies Use of electronic medical records (EMR) for documentation Leadership and team coordination in clinical settings Quality improvement and patient safety practices
