What they do

A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Responsibilities:
Performs patient assessments, general and critical care respiratory care procedures, respiratory care for newborns in Labor and Delivery, blood gas analysis and interpretation, maintenance and management of equipment and patient and family education in both adult and neonatal areas.
Qualifications:
Education Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy Sciences Required Work Experience Previous Working Experience in Neonatal Respiratory care, or successful completion of department specific orientation including skills validation of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level Required Licenses and Certifications RRT
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care and licensed by the State Board of Medical Examiners Upon Hire Required and BCLS
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and ACLS Upon Hire Required and NRP
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Upon Hire Required PALS
