What they do
A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Regularly meets with staff, keeps department updated of new care practices, policies and expectations. Safety standards and performance improvement initiatives are clearly explained to staff and monitored for compliance. Able to manage multiple staff and situations, ensures fiscal responsibility for the department to meet or exceed budget expectations. Communicates with staff, physicians, other departments, patients and families in a professional manner, and ensures confidentiality where pertinent. Assures that departments are in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Provides timely follow up to corrections of any identified deficiencies. Assures positive working relationships exist in the departments supervised, and works consistently on patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction initiatives.Qualifications Required:
Three years in respiratory care Bachelor Degree Registered Respiratory Therapist (National) AND Respiratory Therapist (State)Desired:
