A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Administers respiratory care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. Provides patient education on pulmonary disease processes, medications and therapies. Acts as a resource for Certified Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory Care Practitioners, and students. They act under the direction of the Medical Director, Director of Cardiopulmonary and the Respiratory Care Coordinator. Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Care. Required Licenses Registered Respiratory Therapist credentials with the National Board of Respiratory Care Respiratory Care Practitioner Kentucky state license Compliance with Continuing Education requirements Certified in CPR/First Aid for
